Dreams Without Borders (DWB) is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing Responsible Artificial Intelligence, technology entrepreneurship, education, and international collaboration. We connect academia, industry, entrepreneurs, and communities to promote the responsible development of AI and transform innovative ideas into meaningful real-world impact.
Dr. Anna Farzindar, Founder and Executive Director of Dreams Without Borders, is a Professor of Computer Science at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles. Her expertise spans Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, machine learning, data science, Responsible AI, and technology entrepreneurship.
Dr. Farzindar brings a unique combination of academic, entrepreneurial, and international leadership experience. She previously served for approximately a decade in academic and research roles at the University of Southern California (USC) (2014-2023) and as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Montreal (2009–2015).
She was also CEO and co-founder of NLP Technologies Inc., an AI company established in Montreal, Canada, specializing in Natural Language Processing. Her entrepreneurial experience provides an important foundation for DWB's work connecting AI research and education with innovation, entrepreneurship, and practical implementation.
Dr. Farzindar has held leadership and advisory roles within the international technology and research community, including Industry Chair of the Canadian Artificial Intelligence Association, Chair of the Technology Sector of the Language Industry Association of Canada (AILIA), Vice President of Canada's Language Technologies Research Centre (LTRC), member of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Computer Science Liaison Committee, and member of the Canadian Advisory Committee to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Her interdisciplinary perspective also extends to the arts. She studied fine arts, painting, and sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Versailles and Ateliers Beaux-Arts de Paris in France. This intersection of technology, ethics, creativity, and human experience continues to influence DWB's approach to Responsible AI.
